REMINDER – AGM on Monday

A gentle reminder that our Annual General meeting (AGM) will be held on Monday (1st October) in the tenants hall. The meeting starts at 7:00pm with refreshments available from 6:30pm

The meeting will discuss a number of current issues on the estate – rent increases, anti-social behaviour and repairs are already on the agenda – and there will be an opportunity to ask Peabody representatives about any other issues that affect our community.

There will also be an election for a Residents’ Committee for the next 12 months. The RA Committee are always looking for new members – the time commitment is not too much and you will have an opportunity to shape future services on our estate and in the local area. If you would like more information about what being on the RA Committee involves, please e-mail Steve Smith on cumberlandmarketra@hotmail.co.uk  Please attend on Monday and volunteer your time.

We hope to see you on Monday

  1. Hi Steve will try and make the AGM The item regarding the rent increase interests me and many will also be interested. At a time where everyone is struggling not only is it insensitive timing, but also such a large rent increase. It equates to me having to receive over a 7% wage increase this year and this wont happen. Bearing in mind many including myself as a key worker had a pay freeze for 2 years and the next year coming is only 1% and with inflation only at 2.6% the rent increase is enourmous. It baffles me why Peabody have increased our rents so high. Are they trying to force residents to leave by default or perhaps constructive ways like in an employement situation constructive dismissal? Perhaps it is a moment to ask Peabody to reflect on the large increase and reconsider. Alternatively maybe we should as a residents association seek a rent freeze agreement from Peabody in the next few years (2 or 3 years) We are all struggling including people who may be receiving benefits as these are changing as the Government reforms them Like I mentioned I will try my best to get to AGM as I am working until 6, but if not if you could pass on these comments please and perhaps an item for our next residents association meeting many thanks Graham
